Safiyah qualified as a Registered Dietitian from the University of Western Cape in 2017. She completed her community service at Groote-Schuur Hospital where she predominantly worked with oncology and medical patients. She then became a permanent dietitian at Groote-Schuur Hospital where she is still currently working. This is where her passion for surgery and gastroenterology originated. In her years of clinical experience she has worked in various clinical areas managing complex nutrition related diseases. Safiyah manages both in and out patients, this includes but not limited to upper gastrointestinal diseases, hepatobiliary diseases, oncology, diabetes and weight loss. She also continued her passion for clinical nutrition by perusing her Masters in therapeutic nutrition through Stellenbosch University.
Safiyah became a dietitian because, she had a deep passion for the value of nutrition and cooking which stems from her Indian roots. She believes what individuals eat play a role in their overall health and the right education around nutrition will help them make better decisions. She started sharing her love for food and clinical experiences through her social media. She believes in promoting accurate evidence based information and combating false or misleading nutritional information through her platform. Safiyah brings her broad experience in clinical nutrition to her practice and prides herself in her empathetic approach toward her patients.
