The Power of Probiotics

An effective digestive system is intimately linked to several other bodily functions, the immune system, in particular, houses nearly 80% of the body’s immune cells in the digestive tract. Scientists have also linked the digestive system to several other health conditions such as allergies1, obesity1,2 as well as anxiety and depression1,3, as nearly 90% of the body’s serotonin (happy hormone) is made in the digestive tract.

The main aspect of digestive health that matters is the balance of the naturally occurring beneficial bacteria in the gut, collectively termed as the gut microflora. Keeping the balance involves helping healthy, beneficial bacteria to thrive and survive and to keep unfriendly, harmful bacteria at a minimum.

Probiotics are extremely beneficial in restoring and maintaining this balance by repopulating the digestive tract with beneficial bacteria. The World Health Organization defines probiotics as “live microorganisms that, when administered in adequate amounts, confer a health benefit on the host”4. They can be consumed via probiotic supplements or foods such as fermented foods (Sauerkraut, Pickles), kefir, kombucha, yoghurt or other commercial foods with added active cultures.

What are HOWARU® Premium Probiotics?2907111

HOWARU® Premium Probiotics is a blend of clinically studied probiotics that has been scientifically formulated to contain 2 of the most studied probiotic strains for gut and immune health, Lactobacillus Acidophilus NCFM® and Bifidobacterium Lactis HN019™. Each 1g sachet contains 1.2 billion CFU (colony forming units) HOWARU® Premium Probiotics at time of manufacture. This blend of HOWARU® Premium Probiotics helps to deliver healthy digestion and natural immunity in one convenient supplement5,6.

Why 2in1?

FUTURELIFE® Smart Fibre™ is designed with a 2in1 format simply because you can’t put probiotics through the same heat processing treatments as bran because the live probiotic cultures would be destroyed. HOWARU® Premium Probiotics have been packed in individually wrapped foil sachets that provide:

  • Portion-controlled servings of probiotics
  • The correct environment to protect the sensitive probiotics
  • Each sachet is nitrogen flushed and packed in a GMP facility to help preserve the number and viability of the probiotics

The concept of 2in1 may also be translated to one product providing both prebiotics (wheat bran in the fibre flake) and probiotics (in sachets) which together could work as a symbiotic. While probiotics are live microorganisms that are beneficial to the body, prebiotics are the fuel that feeds probiotics, maximizing their ability to restore balance of the digestive system’s good bacteria.

Digestive and Immune Health Benefits of HOWARU® Premium Probiotics

Several human intervention trials have demonstrated that L. Acidophilus NCFM® and B. Lactis HN019™can balance gut microflora by competing for resources and space against harmful bacteria and therefore resulting in enhanced levels of beneficial bacteria. A clinical trial has also shown that B. Lactis HN019™ can reduce the time the matter takes to pass through the colon, which leads to digestive comfort and reduced risk of colon cancer as there is less exposure of waste to the colon5,6.

There are also several high quality human clinical studies looking at the activity of important cells of the immune system, such as phagocytic and natural killer cells. These studies show that there is a significant improvement in the activity of these cells which demonstrates that B. Lactis HN019™ contributes to the strengthening of the body’s natural defenses5,6.

What else does FUTURELIFE® Smart Fibre™ 2 in 1 contain?
