Johannesburg – Reports of another UFO sighting in South Africa have been questioned on social media, with Twitter users taking to #UFOSA to debunk the latest “sightings” of extra-terrestrials in Sandton and Soweto.
A UFO was allegedly sighted in Cape Town on the weekend, with pictures doing the rounds on social media of a green light hovering in the sky above the Mother City on Saturday night.
New “videos” have emerged on Twitter of similar lights now appearing above the Johannesburg skyline, with one “appearing” over Sandton, and another over Soweto.
And this morning, a strange “crash site” was erected on the corner of William Nicol and Sandton Drive in Sandton.
Twitter users though were not falling for the gig, with many suggesting it was one big marketing campaign.
Journalist Alex Eliseev tweeted this morning that the “crash site” in Sandton is actually a movie set.
Even Olympic swimmer Roland Schoeman got in on the action, chirping any potential alien visitors that our country’s new, strict child travel laws may pose a problem.
It has now emerged that South African brand FUTURELIFE® was behind the viral marketing stunt, in efforts to promote a new product.
Read on for how the story is unfolding on Twitter at #UFOSA.
